What is a Prosthodontist?
A Prosthodontist is a Specialist Dentist (like an Orthodontist) who is trained in the reconstruction and replacement of teeth and optimizing oral function. They have completed 3-4 years of full time advanced postgraduate residency after dental school, receiving training in dental implants, crowns, bridges, veneers, full and partial dentures as well as adjunct therapies such as TMD/orofacial pain management. A Prosthodontist is heavily versed in the scientific literature surrounding diagnosis, dental materials, engineering and technical theory, biological aspects of the treatments and clinical technique.
Why Visit a Prosthodontist?
Due to the extra experience and academic theory gained during their training, Prosthodontists provide a broader depth of knowledge about your dental treatment and can provide a different perspective to your care. Prosthodontists will often coordinate the use of other dental specialists or general dentists into your treatment, working together to gain the best outcome for you.
